Characters
Problem Redesign Captain Zorg for the Movie Poster and the Cereal Box cover Solution The character needed to be re-designed to look more like an experienced and highly successful Captain. I drew him out first in pencil and then finished him in pen. NA
Problem Create an alien creature. Solution This pen drawing is of a character I designed in my free time. This is a beast that alien warriors would ride into battle. The massive size and heavy armor of the beast allows it to plow through enemy lines, barriers, and small ground based weaponry. NA
Problem Design a battle-ready robot for the movie poster. Solution I designed this character for the movie poster idea. This robot was first conceptualized when I was in high school. I redesigned him to make him more of a capable war machine ready for battle. The robot was drawn in pen. NA
Problem Design a book cover. Solution For this project I really wanted the theme to reflect classic horror stories. This monster was a character I came up with as a kid. The basic design was roughly sketched out in pencil. Then the final design and fine details were rendered in pen. A+
Problem Design a car crazy monster for car club. Solution For this project I took some inspiration from similar hot rod cartoon art that I've seen. I designed the monster to be a comical representation of what people feel in fast cars. The character was sketched in pencil and then finished in pen. N/A

 Still Lifes
Problem Draw an actual or created scene as a still life. Solution For this assignment I sketched a book, toy car, and a camera sitting on my desk. I thought it might be interesting to draw a collection of objects with varying levels of detail. A+

 Logos
Problem Design a logo for yourself that communicates who you are. This logo will be used throughout your self-branding media. Solution I went through several versions of logos before I finally created the final logo seen here and on my homepage. The logo includes my initials JAS. The pencil is symbolic for my belief in graphic design starting with a pencil and paper, not a computer. The white space, that the "A" creates, appears to be a hidden microphone which is symbolic of my hidden talent as a voice actor for the videos I've produced. A+
